I spent a lot of years travelling and meeting international people. I loved telling them I was a writer because I’m proud of it. But the follow-up question to that was always, “Are your books in English or in Portuguese?” When I said Portuguese, the usual answer was: “Too bad, I might I’ve read them if they were in English.” Well, now it is possible because my first English book is out!
I spent a lot of time wanting to write a Halloween story based on the world created in my books. But I realised that without having the main books translated, people wouldn’t understand the story of Lilly, Liam, and the others…
So in 2016, I had the idea to go in another direction. Write about the same world but with completely new characters and even new places. And that’s how “The Roommate” was born…
But I only had 2 days to outline it, write it and revise it, since I wanted to publish it on Halloween. So I didn’t promote it much. I was afraid to be criticised for something even I knew wasn’t my best work.
Since I had a lot of time on my hands recently – and with the release of Tides (my first English novella) coming up – I thought this was a good way to get the ball rolling.
I reedited The Roommate. Instead of the original 6,000 words, I wrote 12,000 words (I guess you can call it a novellette). I gave it a more “fantasy” name and even worked on a new cover, which I’m in love with:
The one thing that remains the same it’s its synopsis…
Melissa is not your typical heroine. She was always afraid of the dark and spent her life convinced there are monsters lurking in the dark.
She hopes that a fresh start and new friendships will help her forget the events that brought her to Ireland. But she knows that strange things always happen on Halloween, and a chain of mysterious murders on campus are just the proof she needed.
Is it witchcraft? Is she a supernatural magnet? Does her birthday day have anything to do with it?
And the fact that IT’S FREE!
