Book review: Ten Tips for Topping the Romance Charts

Ten Tips for Topping the Romance Charts cover

Title – Ten Tips for Topping the Romance Charts: How To Get Your Own Happy Ever After

Author – Mark J. Dawson, Serenity Woods

Pages – 32 pages

Summary

Ten tips for topping the Romance chart is a free ebook, available on Mark Dawson’s website, The Self-Publishing Formula. It was written with Serenity Woods, a best-selling romance author, and I believe that most of this advice stems from Woods’ personal experience writing romance with Dawson working as an editor.

It has 32 pages of short and practical advice and can easily be read in one hour.

Review

Most of the advice that I read in this book was on topics that I already knew about in more detail than expressed here. But that’s because I read a lot of books and blog posts about these themes. So, if you are new to writing and are looking for short advice on how to start, then this book may be for you.

I recommend reading it because it never hurts reading a reminder of things we already know about but need to remember that we should be doing. I also learnt about a new cool website where I can publish my stories, Draft2Digital. No matter how much we think we already know about a topic we might always learn something new.

It doesn’t really teach you how to “top romance of the charts” so don’t go into it thinking you’re going to find gold. But if you want to start writing romance and are looking for advice on some of the practical, smaller stuff – and if you like free stuff – then you might enjoy this book.
