Tides
Ada Hughes Novella
Family drama…
Forbidden love…
A new world…
When children start to go missing in a fishing town, Ada Hughes fears for her two little brothers’ safety. Tide Springs was never really safe for them but she has a plan to escape their toxic family environment.
While battling her own loneliness and ignoring her forbidden love, Ada is faced with one more unexpected twist. Mythological beings and an ancient hunting order will change her life forever.
She is suddenly afflicted with questions… Is this a new reality or just a hallucination? Will she be able to face this new world while being confronted with the secrets of her hometown?
MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
There are moments when your breath gets stuck and it’s impossible to distance our reality from the reality of the character.
TIDES is the first novella in the WORLD OF SHADOWS series, a YA urban fantasy series about a demon-hunting organisation. Its filled with supernatural vibes, action, mystery, and romance…
This novella is written based on the world and characters created in the World of Shadows main books, published only in Portuguese by the same author.
It tells the background story of one of its secondary characters, and how she came to join the demon-hunting organisation that is centred in the main books. This book can be read individually and without spoilers. There are some elements of the organisation that only touch the surface but as I write the background story of other characters, I hope to explore these elements in more depth.
I hope that as more and more people fall in love with these characters and the world I created, I will finally have the opportunity to translate the main books into English.

REVIEWS
Wow! What a truly captivating book, one that I enjoyed immensely from start to finish! This author is definitely one to watch out for […] Please please PLEASE translate this series, Patricia! This book is an absolutely perfect introduction to a promising series […] The wording and language used in this book combined with the author’s exceptional storytelling skill made it incredibly addictive, even for a genre I don’t tend to read much.

An entertaining read with plenty of action and suspense! […] The author packs a lot into less than 80 pages: a fractured family, loss, mystery, faith, youthful romance and a really, really bad mermaid/snake/demon thing.
– Kristine, Goodreads
The smooth and readable writing style lends an intimate, cinematic quality to the narrative, utilizing compelling dialogue which reveals the inner psychology of the players while creating a continual sense of movement. […] Tides marks the origin of a series which promises many surprises ahead.

Oh my god! I loved Ada I seriously loved every single page of this book. The writing is amazing and it takes you in one minute to the world with monsters that should exist only in books and how Ada discovered this world herself. The way that the world is described and made it’s absolutely fantastic it really takes you in!

Ada is far from the typical damsel in distress. She’s strong. It’s an absolutely amazing story, though. It’s haunting, but beautifully written. I can’t recommend it enough to anyone who likes a little bit of darkness, mystery, and fantasy. I hope to see much more of Ada, and more stories from the author in the future.

I do, seriously, hope I get a chance to read more by Mrs. Morais because she has a lot of talent. Yes my first exposure is a YA novella but if that genre can leave a 39 year old wanting more it says alot about the writing don’t you think? […] So I guess what I’m trying to say is that Tides is a book to share with the family. It’s got love, forbidden love, mystery, hope, suspense and more, a little bit of something for every member of the family.

The supernatural elements don’t pick up until the end, but it’s shocking when they do. It’s just enough of a supernatural taste that it leaves you wanting more, which is clever considering it’s part of a larger series. Tide is an enjoyable, quick read. I think it would be a great creepy beach read.
